Changara is a district of the Tete Province in Mozambique with the administrative seat in the city of Luenha . Its territory is bordered to the north by the Chiúta district , to the west by the Cahora Bassa district and the Republic of Zimbabwe , to the south by the Guro and Barué districts of Manica province and to the east by the Moatize and Cidade districts of Tete province .

The Changara District is 6,612 square kilometers and in 2013 had a population of 189,003 people. This corresponds to a population density of 29 people per square kilometer.

There is no hospital in Changara, but there are 13 health stations.

Economy and Infrastructure

In 2007, less than one percent of Changara's population had access to electricity, and over 60 percent were heated with wood. In 44 percent of households there was a radio, in less than one percent a television set.

Natural resources

In the Changara district, as elsewhere in the Tete coalfield , coal has been mined for a long time. In addition, titanium , copper , iron , uranium and nickel ores are mined.

Agriculture

There are 33,000 farms in the district, with an average of 1.5 hectares of land. The main crops are corn, cassava, peanuts and sweet potatoes.

There are around 500 km of roads, 120 km of which are part of the EN103 national road.
