Chanum
Chanum , chonum , chanym , Hanum or Hanım was an honorary title for women in Turkey and Persia . The male variant was Khan . Nowadays the word is widely used as a courtesy address for women. The most common form of address for a woman in Turkish-speaking countries is the first name followed by the word "chanum", e.g. B. Namina chanum, Bibi Chanum ( Timur's favorite wife ), Djavidan Hanum , Leila Hanoum , Zübeyde Hanım , Halima Khanum (Halime Olcay) etc. The form Hanım is common in today's Turkish language.
