The Chanute Peak is a 1,095 m high mountain on the Davis Coast of Graham Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It rises 6 km south of Cape Wennersgaard on the east bank of Lanchester Bay .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1960 after the US aviation pioneer Octave Chanute (1832-1910), who constructed the first maneuverable glider planes between 1896 and 1897 .
