history

Probably a few years before 1357, Christian Bruce , sister of the Scottish King Robert the Bruce , had a Lady Chapel built on the site. After the parishes of Chapel of Garioch and Fettereir were united in 1599, the chapel was probably expanded to become a parish church. Today's Chapel of Garioch Parish Church stands directly north of the Lady Chapel. It was opened in 1813. Your bell was made in 1871. The expansion in 1923 was planned by Alexander Marshall Mackenzie . Only a few fragments of the medieval chapel have survived today.

description

The neo-Gothic church stands on the northern edge of the hamlet of Chapel of Garioch. Its red brickwork consists of granite roughly cut into blocks . Four simple ogival tracery are embedded along the south facade . Originally a simple, elongated building, a choir was added on the north side in 1923 . A neo-Gothic roof turret with open bells sits on the west gable . The roof is covered with slate.

Pittodrie's Yate

A quarry stone wall surrounds the cemetery. The tombstones date from the late 18th century. Pittodrie's Yate (Gate) was built in 1626. The component is 4.5 m wide, around 4 m high at the highest point and integrated into the cemetery wall. It is unclear whether it was possibly an entrance portal in the outer wall of the chapel. The three sculpted stones on the arch were installed there in 1923. Possibly these are the closing stones of the former roof turrets of the chapel.
