The remains of the 16th century Saint-Jacques chapel lie inside the former Roman amphitheater Arènes de Besançon ( Besançon , Doubs department ).

Remnants of the chapel are partly on the area of the former Arènes de Besançon within the Lycée d'enseignement professionnel Condé in the Battant district .
In the Middle Ages , the chapel was on the site of the Roman amphitheater and outside the first city wall.
history
A first chapel was consecrated in 899 and destroyed in 977. It is mentioned in various bibliographies because it was built with "ancient material" and had a characteristic arcade. This arcade can still be seen from LEP Condé .
In 1063, on the occasion of the inauguration of the Sainte-Madeleine church, a new chapel is mentioned.
In 1182 the "Hôpital Saint Jacques" was added to accommodate the pilgrims. This building becomes today's Hôpital Saint-Jacques .
In 1301 the chapel was rebuilt.
In 1885 the historian and archaeologist Auguste Castan discovered the ruins of the chapel from the 14th century in the courtyard of the former Condé barracks .
The remains were declared a Monument historique on April 2, 1927 .
