The Chaplin Head is a raised headland on the western end of South Georgia . There it is on the south coast between Undine Harbor and Schlieper Bay .
Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations mapped it in 1926 and named the hill above the headland as Sharp Peak . After the measurements of the South Georgia Survey between 1951 and 1957, the name was changed to Lieutenant Commander John M. Chaplin (1888-1977) of the Royal Navy , survey officer on the RRS Discovery from 1925 to 1927 and head of the hydrographic survey team on South Georgia from 1928 to 1930.
