Charlene du Preez (born December 4, 1987 in Sasolburg ) is a South African track cyclist .
Athletic career
In 2012, Charlene du Preez started out with road cycling . In 2017 she won bronze in road racing at the African Championships . In the same year she became a two-time South African champion on the track.
Also in 2017, du Preez and her husband moved to London to take part in road races for training purposes and in UCI track races in Europe. There she trains at the Herne Hill Velodrome and works part-time in a bicycle shop. In 2018 she started at the Commonwealth Games . In the single pursuit she finished 18th, with the South African four in sixth place in the team pursuit , and she won two other national titles.
After the Commonwealth Games, du Preez decided to focus on short-term disciplines on the track in order to qualify for participation in the Olympic Games in Tokyo . At the African track championships she won gold in the sprint , keirin and 500 meter time trial .
