Bernette Beyers (born January 17, 1992 in Stellenbosch ) is a former South African cyclist .

Athletic career

It wasn't until 2013 that Bernette Beyers started cycling, on a borrowed bike from a local bike shop. In January 2015 she started training on the track . A few weeks later, she won six medals at the Western Cape Provincial Championships and other medals at the national championships. Then she and Odette van Deventer were invited to a three-month training stay at the World Cycling Center of the UCI in Aigle, Switzerland . In May 2016 she presented at a railroad meeting in the Vélodrome National in French Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines with 11.358 seconds a new South African record in the 200 meters and finished in a star-studded international field in the Sprint eighth.

In November 2016, Beyers started in the Keirin finals of places seven to twelve at the first run of the Track Cycling World Cup in Glasgow , fell and broke her collarbone . In March 2017 she became four-time African champion , in the points race , in the 500-meter time trial , in the sprint and with Jennifer Abbot in the team sprint . She was runner-up in the Keirin.
