Charles-Alexandre Coëssin de la Fosse (born September 7, 1829 in Lisieux , † July 9, 1910 in Paris ) was a French painter and etcher.

He studied at the École des beaux-arts de Paris with François-Édouard Picot and later with Thomas Couture .

He made his debut in 1857 at the Salon of the Société des Artistes Français . Since then he has presented his works there all his life. He mainly painted genre scenes, battles, religious paintings, and then mythological scenes.

As a representative of the French nobility, he glorified the Chouannerie in many paintings, such as "l'Embuscade" (ambush, 1883). Despite his noble descent, he signed his works with the simple name "Coëssin".

Charles Alexandre Coēssin de la Fosse received a 3rd class medal in the Salon of 1873 for “La Joueuse de Tambourin”. In 1882 he painted “L'Embuscade”, which was still his best-known work, which the artist called “Episode der Chouannerie” and depicted some rebels and peasants armed with their tools in ambush in the chiaroscuro of a small hollow path.

In the following years, after 1890, Coessin de la Fosse no longer exhibited in the salon.
