Charles-Alexandre Fessy

Charles-Alexandre Fessy (born October 18, 1804 in Paris , † November 30, 1856 there ; also Alexandre-Charles Fessy ) was a French organist.

Life

Fessy studied at the Conservatoire de Paris from 1813 and, as an organ student of François Benoist, won first prize in the organ subject in 1826. He then became the first organist at the La Madeleine church . In 1847 he replaced Lefébure-Wély at the Church of St-Roch , who in turn took over the position at La Madelaine. Fessy was organist at Saint-Roch until his death.

Between 1830 and 1840 Fessy also conducted the Concerts Valentino , the Concerts Viviennes and other concert series. In addition, Fessy was a conductor with the National Guard of Paris. He had a profound knowledge of brass instruments and wrote a school for the saxhorn . As an organ composer he was in the post-classical French tradition. More recently, Nicolas Gorenstein has recorded a double CD of his organ works.
