Charles-François Duvernoy

Charles-François Duvernoy (born April 16, 1796 in Paris ; † November 27, 1872 there ) was a French opera singer ( bass baritone ) and music teacher .

Life

Charles-François Duvernoy, son of the clarinetist Charles Duvernoy , studied singing at the Conservatoire de Paris . He made his debut at the Théâtre Feydeau in 1821 and then appeared on various French provincial theaters and made guest appearances in Belgium and Holland.

From 1843 to 1867 he was a member of the Opéra-Comique ensemble . He first sang baritone parts and later switched to the bass buffo. His repertoire included roles such as Lord Elford in Le domino noir and Beppo in Fra Diavolo by Daniel-François-Esprit Auber , Ruben in Joseph by Étienne-Nicolas Méhul and the Sénéchal in Richard Cœur de Lion by André-Ernest-Modest Grétry .

From 1851 to 1871 he taught singing at the Conservatoire de Paris. His sons were also known as musicians: Victor Alphonse Duvernoy as a composer and pianist, Edmond Duvernoy , whom he trained himself, as a singer.
