Charles Bessières

Charles Bessières (born March 30, 1826 in Lausanne ; † June 27, 1901 there ; from 1859 resident in Lausanne) was a French - Swiss banker and politician .

Bessières attended secondary school in Lausanne and then stayed in German-speaking Switzerland . He was employed first by his father, then by the Bugnion bank . In 1863 he opened an exchange bank and worked as a banker until 1889 .

In 1862 he was in the council of the city of Lausanne chosen, where he had until 1866 a seat.

As a philanthropist, he bequeathed his fortune to public schools, charitable works and various institutions. He also donated 500,000 Swiss francs to the construction of the Bessières Bridge , which was completed in 1910 and named after him.
