Charles Brockhouse

Charles Leslie Brockhouse (* 1959 in Deep River , Ontario , Canada ) is a Canadian molecular biologist . His main research interests are in the genetics of marine and aquatic life.

Life

Brockhouse was born in 1959 in Deep River, the son of the physicist and later Nobel laureate in physics, Bertram Brockhouse and his wife Doris (née Miller). He grew up with five siblings. He studied at the University of Toronto , where he in 1982 his Bachelor of Science , in 1984 his Master of Science and in 1991 he made his Ph.D. in Genetics. He was an assistant professor at the University of South Alabama . From 2006 to 2013 he was an Associate Professor in the Marine and Aquatic Genetics department at Creighton University in Omaha .

He deals with the genome structure and population genetics of the American lobster and the genetics of invasive insects on the Galapagos Islands as well as the expression of the silk genes in black flies larvae and the characterization of silk proteins.
