Charles Cotton (poet)
Charles Cotton (born April 28, 1630 in Alstonefield , Staffordshire , † February 16, 1687 ) was an English poet, translator and fisherman .
Among other things, he wrote burlesques on Lucius on Virgil and translated works into English, the best known being his transcriptions of the essays by Michel de Montaigne .
He was an avid angler and wrote instructions for this, and is still considered the "father of fly fishermen " to this day . Around 1655 he made friends with the "father of the fishermen" Izaak Walton .
