Charles Favre (born December 25, 1973 in Saint-Cloud ) is a French mathematician .

life and work

Favre received his admission to the École normal supérieure (Paris) in 1993 and his degree and maitrise in mathematics from the University of Paris VI (Jussieu) in 1994 and his diploma (DEA, on complex dynamics) in mathematics from the University of Paris XI (Orsay ), where he received his doctorate in 2000 under Nessim Sibony on the dynamics of birational images in ( Dynamique des applications rationnelles ). Also in 2000 he became the CNRS Chargé de Recherche . He received his agrégation in mathematics in 1996 and in 1997/98 he was with Michael Benedicks at the Royal Technical University in Stockholm (licentiate in pure mathematics). In 2005 he completed his habilitation in Paris with a thesis on dynamics and geometry (real trees) in evaluation spaces and singularities of plurisubharmonic functions (arbres réels et espaces de valuations). He researches and teaches at the Center de Mathématiques Laurent Schwartz of the École polytechnique .

Among other things, he was visiting scholar at the KTH in Stockholm, at the IMPA in Rio de Janeiro and at the RIMS in Kyoto.

Favre deals with number theory (p-adic numbers and spaces (Berkovich spaces), dynamics in number theory, arithmetic, complex and algebraic geometry). With Mattias Jonsson he led one of them review tree (Valuative tree) called geometric object A for the analysis of singularities (curves ideals plurisubharmonische functions) into two complex dimensions, which are displayed as positive extent on the value tree which the a Laplacian on Tree to be constructed.
