Charles Frodsham
Charles Frodsham (born April 15, 1810 in London , † 1871 ) was an English chronometer maker.
As early as 1830, he submitted a marine chronometer for testing at the Royal Greenwich Observatory and achieved a second prize. From 1834 Frodsham was a member of the Royal Society . In 1843 he took over the John Arnold & Co company in London .
Frodsham was Vice President of the British Horological Institute for a time and became a member of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers in 1845 . In 1854 he was appointed royal watchmaker and purveyor to the court. A year later he was a master of the Clockmakers Company.
A Frodsham clock was the official timepiece when Australia was founded in 1788 by the British. The clock can be viewed at the Royal Observatory in Sydney .
The family business Charles Frodsham & Co. is still purveyor to the court of the British Royal Family.
