Charles Hammerman Rivkin (born April 6, 1962 in London ) is an American media manager and former American diplomat .

Life

Rivkin was US ambassador to France and Monaco for more than four years, from 2009 to 2013 . Sent by President Barack Obama , he directed the first and one of America's largest diplomatic missions, holding six other constituent posts across France and representing over 50 US government agencies and sections. In this capacity, Rivkin also acted as permanent US observer at the Council of Europe . Rivkin resigned as ambassador in November 2013.

Rivkin was Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs in the US State Department from 2014 to 2017 . Rivkin was confirmed by the US Senate on February 12, 2014 and took office the following day, on April 15, 2014, he was publicly sworn in by US Secretary of State John Kerry . Rivkin's endorsement marked the first time a U.S. ambassador and former CEO led the Department of State's Department of Economics and Business Affairs.

Rivkin is chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Motion Picture Association (MPA), an association of the leading film studios in the United States.
