Charles Humez (born May 18, 1927 in Méricourt , Pas-de-Calais department , † November 11, 1979 in Bois-Bernard , Pas-de-Calais department) was a French boxer .

Amateur career

As an amateur, Humez was four times in a row French welterweight champion from 1945 to 1948. At the European Amateur Championships in Dublin in 1947 , he finished second.

Professional career

Humez turned pro in September 1948. On June 13, 1951, he won the European welterweight title by winning points over the British Eddie Thomas.

In 1952 he rose to the middleweight division and fought against Randy Turpin in England in 1953 for the vacant European championship title in this weight class, but lost on points.

In 1954, however, Turpin lost the title to the Italian Tiberio Mitri, against whom Humez had already won a points win in the welterweight division in 1951. So Humez got another chance for the title on November 13, 1954 and won the fight in Italy by technical knockout in the third round.

He defended the title until 1958. On February 4, 1957 he defeated z. B. in Paris the British Pat McAteer over 15 rounds on points. During this time he won in non-title fights against Hans Stretz (against whom he also boxed a draw) and Peter Müller , each by knockout. His point victory in France in early 1958 over Bubi Scholz was his first defeat in the 70th professional fight. In the rematch that took place in Berlin on October 4, 1958, Humez finally lost his title to Scholz. A little later he ended his career.
