Charles I. de Lalaing (* 1466; † July 17, 1525 in Oudenaarde Castle ) was Comte de Lalaing from 1522. He was the eldest son of Josse de Lalaing and Bonne de la Viefville.

Life

Charles de Lalaing was the Dutch State Councilor and treasurer of Maximilian I , Philip the Handsome and Charles V. In 1505 Philip accepted him into the Order of the Golden Fleece . In 1508 he was appointed Baron de Lalaing by Karl , who fourteen years later, in 1522, elevated the barony to a (Spanish-Dutch) county. In the service of the Habsburgs, he was also governor of Oudenaarde . Charles de Lalaing died on July 17, 1525 and was buried in the Cistercian Abbey of Les Prés in Douai .

Before 1404 he married Jacqueline de Luxembourg († after 1515), daughter of Jacques I. de Luxembourg, Seigneur de Fiennes, and Marie de Berlaymont.
