Philip de Lalaing
Philip de Lalaing (* 1510 ; † 1555 ), second Count of Hoogstraten , was imperial governor of the Duchy of Jülich in 1543 and of the province of Gelderland from 1544 to 1555, as well as knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece .
Life
Philip came from an old noble family from the county of Hainaut and was the second son of Charles I. de Lalaing (1466-1525) and Jacqueline de Luxembourg. He inherited the county of Hoogstraten from his childless uncle Antoine I. de Lalaing .
In 1543 Philip became imperial governor for a short time in the previously conquered Duchy of Jülich . A year later he replaced Renatus von Châlon as governor of the province of Gelderland .
family
In 1532 he married Anna von Rennenberg, the only daughter of Count Wilhelm von Rennenberg and Cornelia von Culemborg. They had the following offspring:
- Antoine II (* 1533; † 1568) ∞ 1560 Eleonore de Montmorency (1536–1581), daughter of Joseph de Montmorency († 1530), Seigneur de Nivelle, and Anna of Egmond (1504–1574), sister of Philippe de Montmorency, Count of Hoorn
- George (* 1536 in Hoogstraten; † July 23, 1581 in Groningen)
- Margaretha († 1598) ∞ Philip de Ligne
