Antoine I. de Lalaing (* probably 1480; † April 12, 1540 in Gent ) was Comte de Hoogstraten from 1518 and governor of Holland and Zealand from 1522 . He was the younger son of Josse de Lalaing and Bonne de la Viefville.

Life

Antoine de Lalaing was Seigneur de Montigny et de Leuze. He accompanied Philip the fair to Spain when he took over the rule there. Under Charles V he was a Burgundian councilor and treasurer as well as Dutch chief des finances .

On April 11, 1509, he married Elisabeth von Culemburg (* 1475; † December 9, 1555), since 1504 mistress of Cuylenburg , Hoogstraten , Borsselen and Zuylen, daughter of Jasper von Cuylenburg and Johanna von Burgund and widow of Jean de Luxembourg, Seigneur de Ville († 1508). The marriage remained childless. Elisabeth was buried in Hoogstraten.

In 1516 he was accepted into the Order of the Golden Fleece , and in June 1518 in Saragossa Charles V appointed him (Spanish-Dutch) Comte de Hoogstraten. In 1522 he took over the office of governor of Holland and Zealand , which he held until his death. Antoine de Lalaing died on April 12, 1540 in Ghent, where he was also buried. He had appointed his nephew Philippe I. de Lalaing as heir .
