Big Brother Award 2009

In October 2009 the company was awarded the negative “ Big Brother Award ” in the business category, which is awarded for the improper use of technology and information. The laudator Frank Rosengart described DigiTask as the “ top dog in the German eavesdropping business”: “As can be summed up from published tender documents, Digi-Task received five million euros from German authorities last year for such monitoring systems and systems alone. Together with Reuter electronic, Digi-Task is developing specialized listening devices for the police and secret services. "

Controversy about the "state Trojan"

In October 2011, the published Chaos Computer Club (CCC) analyzing a presumably to online searches used malicious software (also called "State Trojan" called). In terms of its range of functions, this largely corresponds to an offer which, according to a document on Wikileaks DigiTask, made the Bavarian authorities. Therefore, many media reported that DigiTask is believed to be the originator of the so-called state Trojan. The Bavarian Ministry of the Interior then announced that the initial assessment by the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office had shown that one of the malware leaked to the CCC can be assigned to an investigation by the Bavarian police from 2009.

In the Hessischer Rundfunk , a lawyer for the company confirmed that DigiTask had programmed the malware that was also used in Switzerland and Austria and was delivered to the Netherlands . The company defended itself against the allegation of incompetence and stated: "It is quite possible that software delivered in November 2008 no longer meets the security requirements." Regarding the constitutional concerns, the lawyer said, "The limits of the application are not from the company but to be observed by the authorities . "

The German Federal Criminal Police Office founded the DigiTask User Group in July 2008 to coordinate the use of the software within Europe . DigiTask has no ties to this group, which has since been renamed the Remote Forensic Software User Group. Security authorities in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria met twice a year with authorities in Switzerland , Belgium and the Netherlands . The MP Andrej Hunko , on whose question the information was made public, criticized that the BKA's “cross-border secrecy” only becomes public through “tough research”.

In the years 2005 to 2011, a large part of the annual investigation budget of the customs and tax authorities went to Digitask GmbH. The company received 2.8 million euros from the 2008 budget (3 million euros) as part of investigations.

Warning from Wavecon GmbH due to unfair competition
