Charles Knight (born March 15, 1791 in Windsor (Berkshire) , † March 9, 1873 in Addlestone , Surrey ) was an English publisher and writer.

Knight was a bookseller in London and since 1859 editor of the official " London Gazette ", he made a special contribution to the publications of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge , namely the Penny Cyclopaedia (1830– 1856, 30 vols.), Penny Magazine (1832–1845), which are to be regarded as the beginning of popular literature in England, and the National Cyclopaedia (1847–1851, 12 vols.).

As a writer, Knight was primarily interested in Shakespeare. In addition to an edition of his works with very complete commentary (1839, 8 vols), this subheading includes: The life of Shakespeare (1843) and Studies of Shakespeare (1849). His book The Results of Mechanical Engineering has been translated into German , particularly with regard to cheap production and increased employment (Lübeck, 1833).
