Charles Macintosh (inventor)
Charles Macintosh (born December 29, 1766 in Glasgow , † July 25, 1843 ) was a Scottish chemist and the inventor of the Mackintosh waterproof raincoat named after him .
Life
In its chemical factory at Crossbacket near Glasgow, Macintosh first succeeded in producing lead sugar around 1820 . In 1823 he developed a waterproof clothing fabric named after him, depicted with the help of rubber and especially used for coats. In 1825 he improved the production of Berlin blue and in the same year invented steel making by annealing the iron in hydrocarbon gas .
