Charles Edward Capel Martin (born April 21, 1913 in Abergavenny , † February 19, 1998 in London ) was a British racing driver .

Racing career

Charles Martin attended Eton College and was a successful racing driver in the 1930s. In 1936 he drove an Alfa Romeo Tipo B purchased from Scuderia Ferrari in Grand Prix races. Behind the duo Hans Ruesch / Richard Seaman he came second in the Donington Grand Prix . He also finished second at the Pau Grand Prix and the Deauville Grand Prix . In 1937 he won a race at the AVUS in an ERA R3A and was then invited to test drives with the Auto Union Grand Prix car by those responsible at Auto Union . After a work contract was not concluded, he ended his racing career at the end of the year.

Martin competed twice in the 24 Hours of Le Mans . After a fourth overall place in 1934 , he finished the race in 1935 with Charles Brackenbury in the Aston Martin 1 1/2 Ulster in third overall.
