Charles Hope Petty-FitzMaurice, 7th Marquess of Lansdowne (born January 9, 1917 - August 20, 1944 ) was a British nobleman.

life and career

He was the second son of Henry Petty-Fitzmaurice, 6th Marquess of Lansdowne .

He completed his education at Eton College and at Balliol College of Oxford University . After the death of his father in 1936 he inherited his title Marquess of Lansdowne and numerous other subordinate titles, including that of "Baron of Kerry". The membership in the House of Lords associated with the marquess title he could not take up until he reached the age of 21 in 1938. He completed his studies in 1938 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA).

After completing his studies, he joined the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry Regiment, in whose ranks he participated in World War II and made it to captain . He was killed as a soldier in Italy on August 20, 1944 at the age of 27 when his tank exploded.

Lord Lansdowne was not married and had no children. His titles went to his cousin George Petty-Fitzmaurice, 8th Marquess of Lansdowne . However, the Scottish title Lord Nairne is also hereditary in the female line and therefore fell to his sister Katherine .
