Charles Price Loomis

Charles Price Loomis (born October 26, 1905 in Broomfield, Colorado , † July 6, 1995 ) was an American sociologist and 57th President of the American Sociological Association . Loomis was instrumental in spreading Ferdinand Tönnies' sociological approach in the United States.

In 1928 Loomis received his bachelor's degree in agricultural science in New Mexico , in 1929 he received his master's degree in economics and sociology from North Carolina State University , and in 1933 he received a Ph.D. from Harvard University. PhD. This was followed by study visits to the University of Heidelberg and the University of Königsberg . He then worked for state agricultural organizations until he became a professor at Michigan State University in 1944 . After his retirement in 1971, he moved to the University of Houston .

In 1940 Loomis submitted a translation of Tönnies' main work, Community and Society . In 1967 he served as president of the American Sociological Association.
