Charles Ruff

Charles Frederick Carson Ruff (born August 1, 1939 in Cleveland , Ohio , † November 19, 2000 in Washington, DC ) was one of the special investigators who investigated the break-in into the Watergate complex .

Ruff left his profession in 1982 and was hired by the Covington & Burling law firm that same year. His most famous clients included former Ohio Senator John Glenn . From 1979 to 1981 he served as a federal attorney in the District of Columbia. He also worked as an advisor to the then Washington Mayor Marion Barry and from January 1997 as the White House legal advisor to President Bill Clinton .

Charles Ruff never spoke to his family about his work. He told his children that they could take any job they wanted, except that of a lawyer.
