Clark M. Clifford
Clark McAdams Clifford (born December 25, 1906 in Fort Scott , Bourbon County , Kansas , † October 10, 1998 in Bethesda , Maryland ) was an American lawyer who served US Presidents Truman , Kennedy , Johnson and Carter and was born in 1968 / 69 served as Secretary of Defense of the United States under Johnson and legal advisor to the White House under Truman.
Clifford was US Secretary of Defense from February 29, 1968 to January 20, 1969. He essentially retained the strategy of his predecessor Robert McNamara in Vietnam . In 1989, Clifford was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences . From 1963 to 1968 he was on the US President's Intelligence Advisory Board.
His final resting place is at Arlington National Cemetery .
