Charles Toussaint
Charles Toussaint (born December 6, 1813 in Nancy , † October 17, 1877 in Berlin ) was a French language teacher.
Toussaint first taught at the Mitau grammar school , today's Jelgava in Latvia, and then settled as a language teacher in Berlin. From 1854 to 1856, together with Gustav Langenscheidt , he developed the language learning letters named after both authors using the Toussaint-Langenscheidt method . The self-study courses, which were initially published for French (1856) and English (1861) and then for numerous other languages, are the nucleus of the Langenscheidt publishing group founded in 1856 .
