Charles de Condren

Charles de Condren (born December 15, 1588 in Vauxbuin near Soissons , France , † January 7, 1641 in Paris ) was a French Catholic priest and successor to Pierre de Bérulle as the superior general of the French oratorio .

Life

Charles de Condren was ordained a priest in 1614 and joined the oratory in 1617. In the following years he was involved in the founding of various oratorios and seminaries . After the death of Cardinal de Bérulle in 1629, he became the second superior general of the French Oratorio ( Congregatio Oratorii Jesu et Mariae Immaculatae ) and contributed significantly to the expansion and organizational consolidation of the work. He was one of the leading personalities of the École française de spiritualité , his main work L´Idée du sacerdoce et du sacrifice de Jésus-Christ is considered one of the most important works of this school. He was the confessor and soul guide of Jean-Jacques Olier and introduced him to the École française de spiritualité . He knocked out the archbishopric of Reims and Lyon and the cardinal's hat . Together with the oratorio he campaigned against Jansenism and was a co-founder of the Compagnie du Saint-Sacrement .
