life and work

Charlotte Bachmann, nee Diener, grew up as a foster child with a mountain farmer family in Lain GR and spent the summer with her foster father on an alp . 1953–1961 she attended the Zorten primary school in Vaz / Obervaz . Then worked in a restaurant in Chur . There she met the artist Alois Carigiet , visited him regularly in his studio and began to paint herself. In 1971 she met Helmut Bachmann , who was from Germany and a truck driver at Circus Knie . The two married and had three daughters, one of whom is blind and the other was killed in an accident. When her husband began to paint after a long illness, this encouraged Charlotte to devote herself to painting again.

Charlotte Bachmann's pictures show rural life, some of which is also captured by modern technology, and can be assigned to naive painting . Nine works by her from the collection of Mina and Josef John acquired in 2014 are in the museum in the warehouse in St. Gallen.
