Charlotte Ortmann

Charlotte Ortmann (* 1985 in Remscheid ) is a German jazz musician ( saxophone , flute ).

Live and act

Ortmann began to learn guitar at the age of seven, then piano. Then she discovered the flute for herself and received her first classical lessons at the age of nine. She discovered jazz through her father, the pianist and double bass player Peter Ortmann. The idea of ​​studying music came to her after a year abroad in Canada, where she played in various bands and started playing the tenor saxophone . From 2003 to 2004 she played in the LandesJugendOrchester Nordrhein-Westfalen. From 2005 she studied at the Liszt School of Music Weimar , where she graduated in 2009.

Since 2009 she has been part of Peter Herbolzheimer's European MasterClass under the direction of John Ruocco and Erik van Lier and was a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra from 2010 to 2012 . She toured the Middle East and Egypt with Angelika Niescier's German Women Jazz Orchestra in 2010 and 2011. In 2008 she founded her Charlotte Ortmann Trio . She is also the saxophonist of the funk bands Circo Simonelli and SuperFly and belongs to the Tobias Held Indie Jazz Project and Absolem Max . She can also be heard on sound carriers by Marlow & Claudia Nehls.

Prizes and awards

Ortmann has won several awards at the national youth music competition, most recently in 2005 with the 2nd prize for clarinet in duo. At Jugend jazzt she achieved a 1st prize. She is also the first prize winner of the Bergisches Jazz Löwen and a scholarship holder of the Ria Fresen Foundation.
