Charlotte Willott
Charlotte Willott , b. Körner (born June 7, 1887 in Stettin , † September 25, 1978 in Berlin ) was a German photographer .
Life and works
Charlotte Körner was the daughter of the Szczecin businessman and city councilor Paul Körner and his wife Clara. She was initially an amateur photographer, but worked as a professional photographer even before the First World War . Even then, the focus of her work was theater and photo journalism. In 1922 she moved to Berlin and began training as a photographer.
In 1925 Charlotte Willott opened her own studio in Berlin's Tauentzienpalast . In 1927 she advertised in the storm with the following text: “Photos for storm friends only from Lotte Körner, Atelier Willott, Tauentzienstr. 19 in the Ufa-Kino Tauentzienpalast ”.
She later settled in the Vox-Haus at Potsdamer Platz . This is also where the theater agencies' "stage records" were located. Willott photographed all the artists who signed contracts in the stage record. She also worked for the Weltspiegel and Haus Hof Garten , among others .
Her studio fell victim to the effects of the war, and her archive with around 200,000 recordings was largely destroyed. After the Second World War , Charlotte Willott began working again as a theater and press photographer and opened a new studio in Berlin-Charlottenburg. From 1949 she belonged to the Berlin Journalists Association. The estate of the holder of the Federal Cross of Merit is in the Landesbildstelle Berlin; The Theatermuseum Düsseldorf also has at least one recording by Willott. It shows Gustaf Gründgens and Paul Bildt in a staging of King Oedipus from 1946. Works by Willott were shown in the exhibition women objective in the House of the History of the Federal Republic of Germany .
