Charlotte de Beaune-Semblançay, comtesse de Sauve (* 1551 , † 1617 ) was a mistress of the French King Henry IV.

Life

Charlotte was the daughter of Jacques de Beaune-Semblançay and his wife Gabrielle de Sade . She was lady-in-waiting to the Queen Mother Catherine of Medici before she became a lady of honor to her daughter, Queen of Navarre Margaret of Valois , in 1574 . In 1579 Charlotte de Beaune-Semblançay married Simon Fizès, comte de Sauve in Paris . After his death in 1584 she married François de La Trémoïlle, marquis de Noirmoutier. The marriage produced a son: Louis de La Trémoïlle. From 1572 to 1577, Charlotte was the official mistress of the King of Navarre and later King Henry IV of France. During her relationship with him, she also had a love affair with François-Hercule de Valois-Angoulême, duc d'Alençon , brother of Henry III. of France , whose rivalry they exploited in their favor. She had numerous lovers, including Henri I de Lorraine, duc de Guise , Duke of Épernon and Lord of Avrilly.
