Herrmann Herbert ( "Charly") Lehnert (born November 19, 1938 in Dudweiler ) is a German publisher, writer, editor, graphic designer, presenter and musician.

Life

Lehnert's ancestors on the paternal side come from Latvia and Saxony, on the maternal side from the Palatinate near Kusel . Lehnert grew up on Wilhelmstrasse in Dudweiler, interrupted towards the end of the war by an evacuation to Battenfeld in Hesse . After graduating from elementary school , he attended the teachers' seminar in Ottweiler in the early 1950s , but moved to Saarbrücken in 1958 to the State University of Arts and Crafts, a predecessor of the Saar University of Fine Arts . There he passed his exams as a graphic designer in the early 1960s.

Lehnert worked as a screen printer and font painter in a company for light and outdoor advertising in Dudweiler. Then he switched to a graphic designer at an advertising agency in Saarbrücken. At the same time he performed as a singer and guitarist with his own bands at dance events in the neighboring region of Saarland and Lorraine . In 1965 he switched to the ceramic manufacturer Villeroy & Boch . There he took over the management of the graphic studio in the Mettlach general management and was in charge of the design of the advertising material for the company's factories at home and abroad. From 1959 to the mid-1960s Lehnert was a part-time guitarist in the dance music formations "Colibri Quartet" and "Scotch Combo" with international dance music.

1973 Lehnert went into business for himself and founded his own company in Saarbrücken with the service areas of advertising , design and public relations . In the 1970s, Lehnert was responsible for advertising and sales promotion for 1,500 specialist shops in the German radio and television industry as well as companies, institutions and associations. In addition, he specialized in product design for manufacturing companies in Far Eastern countries that he traveled to. Products designed by him were radio recorders, clock radios (e.g. the first “cube radio” in Germany), televisions, two-way radio systems and more.
In the mid-1970s he also took on a teaching position in graphic design at the University of Applied Sciences for Design (Saarbrücken) , which he held until 1980. During this time Lehnert was the guitarist of the jazz formation "Stefan Klinkhammer Quartet" and "Chris Kümmelbach Quartet".

In the 1980s Lehnert had a collaboration with the Saarland writer Gerhard Bungert . Together they published a series of books on the subject of "regional studies, way of life and mentality of the Saarland and its neighboring areas" until 1986, mainly in the Queißer Verlag (Lebach).

In 1986 Charly Lehnert founded the “Lehnert Publishing House for Regional Literature and Magazines”, which has since become one of the highest-circulation editions in Saarland. The publishing house became particularly well known for its "Kleine Saarland-Reihe" series. In addition to his publishing work, Lehnert has published over 50 of his own works to date. He works as a columnist for magazines in the Greater Region and in the Saar-Lor-Lux area .

As a specialist in political communication, Lehnert organized the state elections for the SPD Saar in 1985, which led to a change of government in Saarland after 30 years. Oskar Lafontaine became Prime Minister of the Saarland. After that, Lehnert was the contracting agency of the SPD Saar until 1999, when the SPD Saar hired another agency and lost the election. From 1994 to 1995 Lehnert organized the municipal and state parliament election campaigns for the SPD in Saxony-Anhalt and at the same time in Thuringia, all of which were successful for the SPD.

From 2002 Lehnert was the presenter of the Saar-Lor-Lux talk show Blue Hour .

In 2008, Charly Lehnert created an audio book entitled Die Musikszene der 60er about the pop-rock history of the Roaring Sixties with music-historical facts, stories and anecdotes from 1960 to 1969, told by cult presenter Manfred Sexauer. The work was released in 2009 as a collector's edition in a box with 5 audio CDs, distributed nationwide by the music publisher palm-record and distributed by SONY / BMG Music Entertainment.

Lehnert hit the headlines in 2008 when it became known that his agency had been commissioned to organize the state election campaign of the Saarland left under Oskar Lafontaine . Up until then, Lehnert had been a member of the Saar SPD for 35 years . The Saarland SPD expelled him from the party after an internal procedure in January 2009. He has been non-party since 2009.

Since 2011 he has performed with the program Schön was die Zeit and other programs at changing locations in the Saar region with readings and chansons.

Charly Lehnert is the publisher of the magazine nemmeh dehemm - Heimat-Magazin for the Friends of Saarland , which was founded in 1987 as an 8-page, two-color newspaper. The publication has been a 16-page color magazine since 2015.

In 2012, Charly Lehnert developed the Saarland Quiz knowledge game on behalf of Grupello Verlag in Düsseldorf . The quiz with 100 questions and answers packed in a red jewelry box presents the Saarland from its best side. In February 2014, the Saarbrücken quiz developed by Charly Lehnert was published in a blue jewelery box - also by Grupello Verlag .

In December 2014, Lehnert published the two-volume edition Das Saarländische Geheichnis , Volume 1 and Volume 2, with short stories, short stories and glosses, 200 articles per volume on the way of life and mentality, regional studies and culinary delights in Saarland.
