Charon was a gothic metal / dark rock band from Finland . It was founded in 1992. Their music style has mainly been influenced by Sentenced . The band is named after the ferryman Charon from Greek mythology. In the summer of 2011 Charon announced their breakup after guitarist Pasi Sipilä left the band in 2010.

history

Charon was founded in 1992 by Antti Karihtala, Teemu Hautamäki, Pasi Sipilä and Jasse Hast. First demos such as Inexorable Reciprocation , Dies Irae and Pilgrimage emerged and mainly still contain death metal music. In 1995 Juha-Pekka Leppäluoto joined the band as a singer. After writing more melodic songs, they signed a contract with Emancipation Productions in 1997 .

The first music video Serenity is rotated before 1998 Sorrowburn appears her debut album and 1999's second album Tearstained . In 2000 Charon went on tour through Finland with Sentenced and shortly afterwards switched to Spinefarm Records , where in 2001 the third album was recorded. The accompanying single Little Angel creates a good entry into the Finnish charts (up to number 5), whereupon it becomes the second music video. In 2002 Downhearted was finally released and entered the Finnish album charts. A European tour with Nightwish and After Forever follows.

In 2003 the singles In Trust of No One and Religious / Delicious appear as harbingers for the album The Dying Daylights , which is released on September 22nd of the same year. The next day the tour starts, on which they are supported by keyboardist Marco Sneck . Shortly afterwards - on November 24th - it is announced that Jasse Hast is leaving the band. Lauri Touhimaa will initially take his place for other concert dates before he will be officially accepted into the band in April 2004.

In 2005 the single Ride On Tears was released in August , followed by the album Songs For The Sinners just under a month later . Another European tour begins in February 2006.

On February 5, 2010 it was announced that guitarist Pasi Sipilä has left the band and Charon will continue as a quartet.

On June 3, 2011, the band announced on their website that they will split up - after their last appearances in summer 2011.
