Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing was the world's third largest contract manufacturer for semiconductor products ( foundry ) in2009. Since January 2010 the company has been part of the contract manufacturer Globalfoundries .

Structure and cooperation

The company headquarters and all manufacturing facilities were located in Singapore . Chartered operated five factories for processing 200 mm wafers and one for 300 mm wafers with structure widths of up to 65 nanometers . On the latter, the company worked closely with IBM as well as with Infineon and Samsung ; for IBM it manufactured CPUs for the Xbox 360 game console as well as cell processors from the second half of 2006 . It also manufactured processors for AMD . In 2008 Broadcom and Qualcomm each contributed more than 10% of revenue.

Ownership

In September 2009, the Abu Dhabi Emirates Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC) and Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing announced that they had entered into a binding agreement to acquire ATIC's Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing. ATIC already owns the majority in Foundry Globalfoundries .

On January 13, 2010, Globalfoundries announced the incorporation of Chartered into the company.
