Chartoscirta cincta is a bug from the family of saldidae (Saldidae).

features

The bugs are 3.2 to 4.2 millimeters long. They can be distinguished from the other species of the genus by their antennae , which are evenly thick and the second member is dark. The membranes of the hemielytres are long (half the length of the corium) and the top is hairless. The bugs are always fully winged (macropter).

distribution and habitat

The species is distributed in almost all of Europe and is only absent in the north. In the east it occurs in the Middle East as far as the Caucasus and Siberia. It is widespread in Central Europe, but only common locally. It is more common in the north and east than in the south. The species also occurs in Africa with the subspecies Chartoscirta cincta paracincta , but it is suspected that it could be an independent species. The species is widespread and common in the UK. Bogs, sedge reeds, reeds, silting areas, wet meadows and banks of water bodies are settled, regardless of the pH value of the soil.

Way of life

The animals live on the ground between peat moss ( Sphagnum ). The flyable bugs fly to artificial light sources at night. The overwintering takes place as an imago , mostly far away from their otherwise populated habitats in dry soil litter or in moss. The adult animals of the new generation appear from July and August. If the conditions are good, a complete second generation will develop by late autumn. Nymphs can be found until November. In spring, the animals are often found in floodpits.
