The Khasan ( Russian озеро Хасан / Ozero Khasan , scientific. Transliteration ozero Chasan ) is a small freshwater lake with an area of 2.23 square kilometers in the extreme south of Primorye in the Far East of Russia . It is located 130 kilometers southwest of Vladivostok near the Chinese border and the Tumen river , where the only border crossing from Russia to North Korea is located.

Lake Chassan went down in Russian history because it was here from July 29 to August 11, 1938, during the Battle of Lake Chassan under Marshal Vasily Blücher, an advance by Japanese troops into Soviet territory was repulsed.
