Wellala Hettige Chathura Gunaratne , known by FIFA as Chathura Wellala , (born September 8, 1982 ) is a Sri Lankan football player .

Chathura Gunaratne, who attended St. Servatius' College in Matara , began his career with his hometown club, Matara SC . After good performances, which allowed the midfielder to get into the national team of his home country, he moved to Negombo Youth SC . He currently plays for Don Bosco SC .

National team

He is a member of the Sri Lankan national soccer team and was part of the runner-up selection in his home country at the 2006 AFC Challenge Cup . In 2007 he was used in the two World Cup qualifiers against the selection of Qatar . He was also part of the squad at the 2008 AFC Challenge Cup . In this tournament he wore the number 25 on his back. The two World Cup qualifiers against the Philippine national soccer team in 2011 also played Chathura Wellala and scored the only goal for Sri-Lanka in the 1-1 draw. In the years 2006 to 2011 he completed a total of 31 international matches, in which he scored four times into the opposing goal.
