Chavalert Chumkum

Chavalert Chumkum ( Thai : ช ว เลิศ ชุ่ม คำ ; * around 1939 ) is a former Thai badminton player . He was the most significant doubles player in Thailand in the 1960s.

Athletic career

In his home country he won the Thai championships in doubles with Chuchart Vatanatham for the first time in 1960 . By 1968 he had won seven other double titles, four of them with Chuchart Vatanatham, two with Sangob Rattanusorn and one with Raphi Kanchanaraphi . Once he was also successful in mixed, and that in 1962 together with Pankae Phongarn .

In the Thomas Cup in 1961 , he and the Thai team lost the final against Indonesia and thus became team vice world champion. In 1964 Thailand finished third in the Thomas Cup, in 1970 the team was eliminated in the preliminary round. Chavalert Chumkum won 19 of 23 games in his three appearances.

In 1965 he won the Asian title in men's doubles with Narong Bhornchima . In 1968 he won the finals of the Dutch Open and the Canada Open with Sangob Rattanusorn and was in the semi-finals of the All England with Narong Bhornchima. At the Asian Games in 1970 he was third in the men's doubles with Pornchai Sakuntaniyom .
