Raphi Kanchanaraphi

Raphi Kanchanaraphi ( Thai : ระ พี กาญจน ระ พี ; born November 6, 1936 in Bangkok ; † February 19, 2010 ibid) was a Thai badminton player who later started for Canada.

Athletic career

In his home country he won mixed with Bunrat Kanchanaraphi for the first time in 1956. In 1959 he won the men's doubles with Narong Bhornchima and the mixed with Heather Ward at the open Thai championships . In 1962 he was again successful in doubles, this time with Chavalert Chumkum at his side. In 1966 he won again with Narong Bhornchima after winning the mixed competition with Sumol Chanklum the year before .

In the Thomas Cup in 1961 , he and the Thai team lost the final against Indonesia and thus became team vice world champion. At the Southeast Asian Games in 1961, he won gold in mixed with Pankae Phongarn and silver in doubles with Narong Bhornchima .

In Canada he won the mixed in 1973 and in the following three years the doubles with Channarong Ratanaseangsuang and again in 1979 the doubles Dominic Soong.

Raphi Kanchanaraphi died during the Thomas Cup Trials on February 19, 2010 in Bangkok .
