Rhymefest (born July 6, 1977 in Chicago ; real life Che Smith ) is an American rapper .

life and career

Smith grew up in Chicago. He started rapping at the age of 15. In 1997 he took the MC - Battle on the Scribble Jam part festival. In the semifinals he was defeated by the then unknown Eminem . In 2001 he recorded the album Raw Dawg without a label or distribution , which was produced by the then unknown Kanye West . In 2003 he won the Scribble Jam MC Battle.

Until 2004 Smith had to stay afloat with various jobs, including working as a janitor. That year, Kanye West's album The College Dropout was released , which includes the track Jesus Walks co-written by Rhymefest . Che Smith received a Grammy Award for Best Rap Song for this song together with Miri Ben-Ari . In 2006 Rhymefest's album Blue Collar was released on Mark Ronson's label Allido Records . The album reached number 61 in the American charts. For the single Brand New Rhymefest worked again with Kanye West. In 2008 Rhymefest published the mixtape Man in the Mirror , which you could download for free. The concept of the work consists of a mock cooperation with Michael Jackson , various pieces from his career are used and reworked.

In 2010 the second album El Che was released . In 2018 he starred in the film A Very Ordinary Hero .
