The film is about the Wehrmacht officer and resistance fighter of July 20th, Henning von Tresckow . Family members, friends and former comrades of Tresckow have their say. So was u. a. held a conversation with the resistance fighter Philipp Freiherr von Boeselager in the Federal Republic.

According to Martin Ahrends ( Die Zeit ), the film draws “a hero portrait that, in its one-dimensionality, does not leave a very lasting impression”. Tresckow will be "incorporated into the ranks of official GDR anti-fascist resistance fighters". In spite of all this, he has “a loving, conciliatory tone”. Attempts are made to “get closer to one's own history as German history”.
