activities

Products and processes for the treatment of surfaces are developed, produced and sold under the slogan "Harmony in Chemistry". Cooling lubricants , industrial parts cleaners, pretreatment chemicals, preservatives, solvents, rinsing media for paints and varnishes, paint strippers and water treatment agents cover most of the product range.

Market segments

Customers are mainly the globally active automotive industry and its suppliers as well as the construction and agricultural machinery, plastic components, steel and can industry segments. The painting and varnishing trade is supplied by paint dealers, wholesalers and technical wholesalers.

history

In 1950 Maria and Wilhelm Kluthe founded the company "Kluthe Fabrication chemical-technical products".

At that time, the laboratory and production were in a garage. The first product was a universally applicable paint solvent and thinner . In 1953, the first liquid cold paint stripping agent for air-drying paints and stoving paints, offered in Europe under the name Controx , followed. It could be used in the immersion process at room temperature, which was in contrast to the previously highly alkaline, caustic hot paint stripping agents (boiling process).

In 1954 the company acquired its own property on Gottlieb-Daimler-Strasse in Heidelberg. In the same year, a small distillation system was installed as a regeneration system for organic solvents . The basic idea of delivering products and taking back the residues was the first component of the “5 C Concept”, which is unique in Europe. Today the administration of the Kluthe Group is located on Gottlieb-Daimler-Straße.

With the takeover of Sahm-Chemie in 1969, the foundation stone was laid for supplying paint wholesalers and specialist dealers with paints, primers and paint solvents. Over the years, the product range for this group of customers has been continuously expanded.

Due to the capacity utilization of the plant in Gottlieb-Daimler-Strasse, another plant was built in Heidelberg-Wieblingen in 1973 to meet the increasing demand. The research and development center for all surface pretreatment products is also located at this location.

recycling

Since the reunification, numerous residues that inevitably arise when the products are used have been processed in Mügeln. New raw materials are obtained from these valuable materials. Two main activities are the preparation of lacquers and paints and, in the area of distillation, the recovery and treatment of organic solvents. The Mügeln plant and three further distillation columns in Heidelberg are owned by Rematec GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of Chemische Werke Kluthe GmbH.

Building varnishes and paints

In 1997 the traditional company Continental Lack- und Farbenwerke Friedrich Wilhelm Wiegand Söhne GmbH in Oberhausen was taken over and the delivery program for the painting trade was expanded to include high-quality building protection paints under the Contilack brand. Central research and development for the architectural paints segment is also located in Oberhausen. The Asperg site produces thinners in small packs for painters and end users under the direction of the Conti-Coatings division as well as for Conti-Coatings Benelux in Alphen.

raw materials

In Mügeln , microbeads for the paint industry and fillers for the cosmetics industry have recently been manufactured and refined in a separate production company.

Further production sites and sales organizations

In Alphen aan den Rijn (NL), Kluthe also produces most of its products outside of Germany and thus supplies the entire Benelux market.

At its location in Kuntzig (Lorraine), Kluthe produces paint, solvents and thinners as well as cleaners, rinsing media for the paint processing industry, as well as paint strippers and coagulants for supplying the French market.

The Kluthe plant, which was newly built in 2004, is located in Guadalajara near Madrid, which currently also produces organic solvents, the complete range of pretreatment programs for metallic and non-metallic surfaces, and water treatment chemicals. The Maghreb is supplied from Spain.

Independent sales and service companies under the Kluthe brand operate in Poland , the Czech Republic , Belgium , UK , Switzerland and Austria . Licensees and sales partners supply the markets in Hungary, Romania, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Croatia and Serbia.

In the meantime, sales and production locations have been founded and established worldwide. Turkey and the neighboring Near and Middle East are supplied from Bursa.

Brazil and Mexico have been active as Kluthe branches since 2012 and 2014 respectively. The USA and Canada are supplied from Chicago and supported from Detroit.

India has been successfully establishing the Kluthe product range on the market for cleaners, preservatives and cooling lubricants for around 3 years .

China, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam are combined in the Far East sales region under Kluthe Chemicals Shanghai.
