Chen Guangbiao (2014)

Chen Guangbiao ( Chinese  陈 光标 , Pinyin Chén Guāngbiāo ; born July 1968 in Sihong , Jiangsu Province , People's Republic of China ) is a Chinese entrepreneur and philanthropist .

Life

Chen founded the recycling company Huangpu , which made him a millionaire. Chen is one of the 400 richest Chinese people. His fortune is estimated at 600 million euros.

After the 2008 Sichuan earthquake , he spent 54 days in the earthquake zone, helping on site and donating over 100 million yuan ($ 15 million US $). In the past ten years he has donated more than 152 million euros, which benefited around 700,000 people.

On December 31, 2013, he announced that he would buy the New York Times . Looking at the authorities blocking the NYT website in China, Guangbiao said the newspaper reported negative and distorted reports. It was only natural that the government would act against it: "If I take over the Times, the newspaper will only have to tell the truth and verify all information," said Chen. "If the deal doesn't come off, I'll look for another credible and influential media company in the US." Possible candidates for him would be CNN , the Washington Post or the Wall Street Journal .
