Chen Zude

Chen Zude ( Chinese  陳祖德  /  陈祖德 , Pinyin Chén Zǔdé , W.-G. Ch'en Tsute ; born February 19, 1944 in Shanghai , Republic of China ; † November 1, 2012 in Beijing , People's Republic of China ) was a Chinese professional go- Player (Chinese Weiqi ) and official.

In 1980 he was diagnosed with cancer for the first time.

Go career

Chen Zude was a student of Gu Shuiru and Liu Dihuai . He was one of the most distinguished white players in China. He is considered to be the founder of the Chinese opening . He won the Chinese National Go Individual competition in 1964, 1966 and 1974 . In 1982 he became the first Chinese Go player of modern times to become a professional Go player and since 1982 he has held the 9th Dan . He won the Chinese National Go Championship three times (1964, 1966 and 1974).

Sports administration

From 1992 to 2003 he was president of Zhongguo Qiyuan , the national Chinese organization for board and card games, and from 1988 to 2006 of the Chinese Weiqi Association .
