Cheryl Dunye (born May 13, 1966 in Liberia ) is an American film director , film producer and screenwriter of African American descent.

Life

Dunye graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia in 1990 with a BA . She then studied at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in New Jersey , where she received her MFA in 1992 .

She became a college professor at UCLA . She also worked as a film director and producer. She has directed and produced several films since the early 1990s. Dunye is an openly lesbian and has two children.
