The Chestnut Hill Farm is a still active farm in Southborough in the state of Massachusetts of the United States . The farm has 131 acres (53 hectares ) and is a designated nature reserve managed by The Trustees of Reservations .
Protected area
The area of the protected area is actively cultivated, which is why individual areas may be temporarily closed off, for example to carry out the harvest. A total of approx. 2 mi (3.2 km ) of hiking trails are available for visitors to the free-of-charge facility , from which bird watching is particularly possible. The trails lead through pastures and fields as well as smaller forest and wetlands and also along the embankment of the Hultman Aqueduct , which is designed as a reserve route for the water supply of Boston through the Quabbin and Wachusett Reservoirs .
In 2006, the residents of Southborough voted by a large majority to designate all parts of Chestnut Hill Farm as a protected area. They handed over the administration to the Trustees of Reservations.
